Executive Director Search Update By Emily Roudebush, OLLI Vice President
Since receiving notice of her resignation, the OLLI Board of Directors has been working diligently toward finding a replacement for our wonderful Executive Director, Jennifer Disano. We've engaged with a local, nonprofit executive-search firm, AMorrison Consulting, LLC, to assist us. They've recently posted a job notice and position description on a variety of appropriate recruitment sites. We've also established an ad hoc Search Committee, which will review the top resumés submitted and conduct interviews with select candidates. They will then present their final recommendation to the full Board of Directors for approval and hiring.
If you're interested in reading the full job listing or applying for the Executive Director position, you'll find all the details here. The Board will continue providing updates as the search progresses.
By Norma Jean Reck, Chairperson, Nominating Committee
Members of the Nominating Committee are working apace to identify candidates for the Board of Directors and to verify that they are interested in being a candidate for Director. All qualified OLLI members interested in being a candidate must notify the Nominating Committee of your interest by emailing Chairperson Norma Jean Reck at [email protected] no later than Friday, March 7. The qualifications for being a Director can be found in Section B of Appendix A. Director Nomination and Election Procedures of OLLI Policies and Procedures Manual, which you can find online at olli.gmu.edu, under Documents on the Main Menu.

Discover the Joy of Watercolor: Sign Up for Watercolor Beginners and Beyond
By Christine Narbut, Art and Music Program Planning Group Co-Chair
Have you ever thought you would like to learn how to paint? The upcoming watercolor class is designed specifically for beginners, regardless of their prior experience or artistic background. Why Watercolor?
Watercolor painting is a magical medium that allows for endless creativity and expression. Its fluidity and transparency create stunning effects that captivate the viewer's eye. Unlike other painting techniques, watercolor encourages spontaneity and freedom, making it an ideal choice for those new to the world of art.
What to Expect in Class
The beginner's curriculum covers everything needed to get started with watercolor painting. Each session is structured to build on skills learned in the previous class, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable learning experience. Here are some of the exciting topics:
Introduction to Watercolor Supplies
Learn about the different types of brushes, paper, and paints, and how to choose the best materials for your projects.
Basic Technique
Master essential techniques such as wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, gradient washes, and layering. – Color Mixing: Understand the principles of color theory and how to create harmonious and vibrant color palettes. – Creating Textures: Experiment with various methods to add texture and depth to your paintings, including salt, sponge, and dry brush techniques. – Composition and Design: Learn how to plan and compose your paintings for maximum visual impact.
Benefits Beyond the Canvas
Engaging in watercolor painting offers numerous benefits beyond the joy of creating art. It can be therapeutic and relaxing, providing a much-needed escape from daily stresses. Painting also enhances cognitive abilities, improves concentration, and fosters a sense of accomplishment and self-expression.
Whether you are looking to develop a new hobby, meet like-minded individuals, or simply unwind, our watercolor classes offer something for everyone.
Theater Lovers’ Group to Hold a Lunch Party
and Attend a Play By Norma Jean Reck, Coordinator, Theater Lovers’ Group
Let's Party!
Do we really need a reason to just enjoy hanging out with old friends while making new friends? Let the spirit move you to grab a friend (does not have to be an OLLI member) and join TLG for lunch at the Auld Shebeen in Fairfax City on Tuesday, March 4 at 11:45 p.m. We have a room to ourselves, so we can socialize to our heart's content. We'll slip in some planning for future theater outings and lunch with separate checks. Please do email Norma [email protected] to reserve your spot by Monday, March 3. Will look for you there.
Synetic Theater to Perform The Immigrant.
Your theater experience is not complete until you have seen The Synetic Theater group perform. Can you imagine theater without words? On Sunday, March 16, TLG will attend the 3 p.m. matinee performance of The Immigrant at Thomas Jefferson Community Theatre in Arlington. We will have lunch at Ruthie's All Day at 1 p.m., thanks to Gay Alper. The play is The Synetic Theater's interpretation of the silent movie of the same name, which is a comedy about the immigrants who arrived in New York at the turn of the 20th century - their trials, tribulations, and high hopes for their new life in America.
We are looking into a group rate for tickets that start at $35. Stay tuned. Please email me at [email protected] to reserve tickets. Feel free to invite a guest or two.
Editor’s Note: At the author’s request, all words are published unedited, exactly as submitted.

By Brenda Bloch-Young and Doris Bloch, Co‑Moderators
As usual, Team Bloch will moderate a session next Wednesday afternoon, March 5, at 4:00 on the OLLI Chat Line. Our March 5 topic is a not-so-usual one: Vegetables We Know and Love.
Team Bloch members enjoy eating a wide variety of vegetables, which can be prepared in a variety of ways. Do you have a favorite vegetable? If yes, what is it and how do you like it prepared? Raw, steamed, fried, baked, stir-fried? Plain or with sauce, condiments, or dressings? Or are you of the school that believes pizza, French fries, ketchup, and potato chips are vegetables that count in the daily consumption quota?
Come join us on the Chat Line, March 5 at 4:00. The Zoom link is found on the OLLI daily schedule.
