Note for
users of Microsoft Windows XP and the Internet Explorer Web browser:
Service Pack 2, which contains security enhancements for the Windows XP
operating system, installs a program that initially blocks pop-up
windows and scripts. These affect the OLLI Website pages, since we use
javascript for our mouse-over, drop-down menus and for some pop-up
windows.
When you first open the OLLI Website, you may see an Information Bar
that says, "To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has
restricted this file from showing active content that could access your
computer. Click here for options..." One option is to
Allow Blocked Content.
You
can be assured that it is perfectly safe to run the javascript on
our pages, and we recommend that you click the Information
Bar and select Allow Blocked Content.
If you cannot see the smaller pop-up windows on this site when you
click the link to them, try this
fast procedure: hold the
ctrl key down while you click on the link. To change settings
for all such windows,
in
the Internet Explorer browser window click Tools, Internet Options,
and the Privacy tab. Clear the check mark from the box that says
Block Pop-ups. Or, to keep pop-up blocking, but still view our
Website's pop-ups,
leave the check mark in the box and click on Settings. Type into
the top field the shorter website address, olli.gmu.edu, and click Add.
Repeat for the longer address, www.gmu.edu/departments/olli. In Settings you can also change
the level of pop-up blocking. Please send an e-mail
to the Webmaster if you find other problems.
Some documents on this site are in
Portable Document Format: PDF
files that require a PDF reader to view them. A free Adobe Acrobat PDF
file reader can be found at the Adobe
Website. On the Adobe home page click on the "Get Adobe
Reader" icon to go to the download page. If the download does not start
automatically, click "here to download." You will not need to register
Adobe Reader.
The pages on this site look best if your screen resolution is set to
800 x 600 or greater. You can see more of a given page's content if
your browser screen view is set to "full
screen;" in Internet Explorer, use F11 to go to full screen and
back to normal.
Throughout this site, clicking on a hypertext link to an external
